Not only is another world possible, She is on her way. On a quiet day, I can hear her breathing. ~Arundhati Roy
Welcome to Outside This Box. My dream is that this blog can become a market place of ideas, spontaneous discussion and a place to learn something new about someone you may not know. This is my way of welcoming a new world while talking, a lot, about my old one. I hope you join me.
Because a box holds or contains something, I see it as extremely restrictive. The lid can be open or it can be closed, but a box will always have four walls that don't move. Boxes have great influences on our lives, whether we like them or not. My first box wasn't constructed of cardboard or concrete. It was constructed of things that can't be touched or bought in a store. It was constructed of societal norms, sexism and even, sometimes, a hint of racism. I have had many boxes in my life time. Some were imposed by others. Some were constructed completely by me.
I have found that the only way to leave the box, or change the furniture in it, is to talk about it. To dissect it. To figure out what keeps us in it; or to figure out why we are comfortable looking at the same four walls.

I quoted Arundhati Roy today because she is an amazing author and social activist. If you get a chance, read her book The God of Small Things. There are books and then there are books that have profound influences on a life. This book is the latter.
